Filippo Ganna looking forward for explosive Gent-Wevelgem: "It could be a nice race"

Gent-Wevelgem is a race that often favours the sprinters, and sometimes the pure classics experts. However it's an open one where many riders. Filippo Ganna is likely looking to take advantage of that grey area.

“In Italy it is now twenty degrees and sunny, here it is completely different. I prefer a sunny race, but it is what it is. It is also the same for everyone. We will see," Ganna told reporters this morning. The long race will suit him, as he's shown his endurance skills at Milano-Sanremo. That is a big focus this spring as he eyes Paris-Roubaix, and Gent-Wevelgem will be another important test.

Without Tom Pidcock, Ganna leads an INEOS Grenadiers team that has several options but all of them rely on offensive racing. It isn't expected that the Italian will attack up the climbs, but in the final part of the race he will be a very dangerous rider if he remains in the peloton.

"It will be a technical competition. Halfway through the course you have several climbs, descents and treacherous passages. It could be a nice race," he describes. A late attack, either solo or in a group, has on occasion succeeded here. Ganna could be an interesting outsider for the 2023 race.
