Lorena Wiebes was born March 17, 1999 in Mijdrecht, Netherlands, and has built her impressive record through sprinting abilities that few can match in the women's peloton. She will ride for Team SD Worx-ProTime from 2023 on a 3-year contract that reportedly leaves her salary between €400,000-500,000 euros, making her one of the highest paid female riders. On Strava, she has delivered more than 1,200 watts in mass sprints in several races. However, she is said to have a peak power of around 1400 watts.

As a junior rider, she had already shown great talent in 2016 and 2017 . She won national and European titles and won several races making her now one of the most prominent rising talents in the women's field. In 2018, her first year as an under-23 and pro rider, she signed with Parkhotel Valkenburg, where she quickly showed her talent with a 4th place in the Brugge-De Panne Classic. Her first Elite victory was not long in coming, in May she sprinted to victory in the 7-Dorpenomloop Aalburg. She picked up 4 victories that year, including a stage and points classification in the BeNe Ladies Tour.

In 2019 , Wiebes stepped up a gear and showed glimpses of the dominance she would show in the coming years. She won the Nokere Koerse and finished second in Brugge-De Panne and Gent-Wevelgem, and won stages in several races, including the Chongming Island World Tour, where she won all 3 stages and all 3 classifications. The next month, she won both the European Games and national championships, beating Marianne Vos outright and propelling her to the top of the cycling world.

However, it was a season far from over, with another win in the BeNe Ladies Tour, Ladies Tour of Norway, 2 in the Boels Ladies Tour and victory in the RideLondon Classique. Heading into 2020 , Wiebes was already a top sprinter in the peloton. In 2020, she would remain with the Dutch team only until May 30, signing with Team DSM for the second half of the season.

In her final months, however, she rode to a victory on 1 of her 2 race days in the Omloop van het Hageland. Returning after the Covid-19 break, she picked up three victories including the Brugge-De Panne classic and the opening stage in the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta. In 2021 , Wiebes won the Scheldeprijs, the Tour of Drenthe and stages in the Ceratizit Festival Elsy Jacobs, International LTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour, Lotto Belgium Tour, Giro d'Italia and the Women's Tour.

In 2022 , however, Wiebes took her sprinting abilities to a whole other level. This year she won the overall classification of both the RideLondon Classique and the Simac Ladies Tour, both World Tour races. Wiebes also became European champion, but these results came as a culmination of 23 victories scattered throughout the year in which she was rarely contested in a sprint. Wiebes won the first stage of the returning Tour de France Femmes and wore the yellow jersey on the Champs-Élysées as a season highlight.

Furthermore, she won the Tour of Drenthe, Nokere Koerse, Scheldeprijs and Binche - Chimay - Binche, in addition to winning 3 stages in the RideLondon Classique and Women's Tour respectively, 2 in the Simac Ladies Tour and 4 in the Baloise Ladies Tour, with other victories scattered throughout the year. With these results, she would end the season as the second rider with the most UCI points, only behind Annemiek van Vleuten who won all three Grand Tours and World Championships. Wiebes has signed a three-year contract with Team SD Worx that will begin in the 2023 season .

Although she had half the number of victories in 2023, 11, the quality remained the same. Wiebes' first season with SD Worx was a success because the team was incredibly dominant in all areas and Wiebes was part of that. She finished second in important races such as the European Road Championships, Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Simac Ladies Tour and Thuringia Ladies Tour, but she also picked up big wins throughout the year. Among them were stage wins in the UAE Tour Women, Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, Thuringia, Giro Donne, Tour de France Femmes, Tour of Scandinavia and the Simac Ladies Tour.

Wiebes also continued to perform in the one-day races. Mainly because she was better in the hilly races this year, but the bunch sprints remained her specialty. She won the Ronde van Drenthe and the Scheldeprijs in the spring, triumphs that were important for her palmares.

2024 was another big year, with the Dutchwoman now taking a total of 22 wins. Simply speaking, the undisputed strongest sprinter in the women's peloton during this era. Her victories included an European Championship title in Hasselt.

Among her many many wins were two at the UAE Tour Women; Ronde van Drenthe; Gent-Wevelgem; Vuelta a Burgos Feminas; Schedleprijs; RideLondon Classique (GC win too); Tour of Britain Women; Baloise Ladies Tour (and GC win) and Simac Ladies Tour.
