Egan Bernal is once again back in training after his accident at the Volta a Catalunya and is now focusing on the upcoming Itzulia Basque Country in Spain, which will take place next week.
After starting his season with Vuelta a San Juan, the Colombian cyclist had to withdraw from the tour prematurely due to knee pain. Nevertheless, he returned to racing during Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. Unfortunately, during the sixth stage, he was involved in a mid-stage crash, which caused him to retire from the race. Despite this setback, he was fortunate enough not to have any fractures.
He made a speedy recovery and was back on his bike in no time. In addition, he cycled around Monaco for a total of 101km with his Ineos Grenadiers teammate, Brandon Rivera. He will provide assistance to his teammate and reigning champion, Daniel Felipe Martínez.
At present, Bernal or his team have not disclosed his plans for the season. Nevertheless, It is likely that he will able to participate in the Tour de France, as long as he maintains his current state of good health.
