Egan Bernal confirms plans to return to Tour de France later this summer after encouraging run of form

After impressive performances during 2024 have marked the biggest sign yet of Egan Bernal's recovery, the Colombian has now confirmed his intentions to return to the Tour de France later this summer.

A Maillot Jaune winner back in 2019, Bernal made his long-awaited return to the Tour de France for the first time in three years last year, taking on the Grand Tour for the first time since his horrific training crash that threatened to end his career. Although he was markedly below his previous level, a 36th overall finish was about more than just positioning for Bernal.

Having subsequently completed the Vuelta a Espana last year also, Bernal has been notably improved in 2024. Podium finishes at the Volta a Catalunya and Gran Camino, top-10 overalls at Paris-Nice and the Tour de Romandie, plus a bright and impressive showing on his Liege-Bastogne-Liege debut, Bernal recently revealed he's posting bigger numbers now than when he was winning Grand Tours.

Via his official Instagram account, the 27-year-old has now confirmed his intention to return to the Tour de France yet again in a few months. "With the blessing I finish the first part of the season, now in Colombia for a few days to prepare for a good Tour De France!" Bernal writes. Whilst another Maillot Jaune might be unrealistic, on current form a top-10 finish is not out of the question.
