Dylan Groenewegen sprinted to sixth place in the fifteenth stage of the
Tour de France. He was not able to perfectly time the start of the sprint in the final meters.
He was in the leading position but quickly lost his advantage when the sprint began. "A few more riders came over me for the real sprint. I did not have the strength to accelerate again," Groenewegen told WielerFlits.
He continues, "Maybe we were a bit too early in the front for the sprint, but I had already used the whole team to let me come back. It's a shame I can't reward them. When you're in a good position at the end, you want to get a good result.”
High temperature during the stage is also one of the reasons why he couldn’t produce a satisfactory result. "At the end you have to hope for good luck, but also have good legs. Besides, it's hard to think logically in this heat," Groenewegen said. "Tonight I'm going to enjoy an ice bath, and tomorrow the rest day,” concludes Groenewegen. He holds 127th position in the GC, 2hour and 58 minutes behind overall leader Jonas Vingegaard.
