The
Giro d'Italia has once again seen a breakaway win it's final sprint stage, as the peloton did not have enough drive to cancel the early move.
Alpecin-Fenix have taken yet another big win, as this time it was
Dries de Bondt the fastest in the final sprint from the group of riders who eluded the peloton.
Early on the four riders went up the road,
Magnus Cort Nielsen didn't wait for a sprint and he made an easy move together with
Edoardo Affini (Jumbo-Visma), Davide Gabburo (Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè) and Dries de Bondt (Alpecin-Fenix).
The quartet build a gap during the day, and on a stage that is traditionally for the breakaway, the Giro once again saw an escapee group take the win on the final sprint stage. It didn't come without hard work, but with the ascent of the Muro di Ca'del Poggio the gaps did not come down as quickly as the peloton hoped for, as the speeds were incredibly high until the finale.
With only 14 seconds left to close, the group went into the final kilometer isolated. Magnus Cort Nielsen was the man to beat, and was forced to launch the sprint from the front, alongside then Affini. However, both ended up beated by Dries de Bondt who brought in the third win for Alpecin-Fenix in the race.
