The quartet build a gap during the day, and on a stage that is traditionally for the breakaway, the Giro once again saw an escapee group take the win on the final sprint stage. It didn't come without hard work, but with the ascent of the Muro di Ca'del Poggio the gaps did not come down as quickly as the peloton hoped for, as the speeds were incredibly high until the finale.
With only 14 seconds left to close, the group went into the final kilometer isolated.
Magnus Cort Nielsen was the man to beat, and was forced to launch the sprint from the front, alongside then Affini. However, both ended up beated by
Dries de Bondt who brought in the third win for
Alpecin-Fenix in the race.
