Following his suspended prison sentence early in the year,
Alexandre Geniez and
TotalEnergies have parted ways. The Frenchman was found guilty of domestic violence, and has in the meantime likely had his career in pro cycling concluded after the news emerged.
The French team have taken to social media this morning to announce: "Team TotalEnergies has come to an agreement with Alexandre Geniez to terminate his contract. As of today, he is no longer a member of Team TotalEnergies." The 34-year old has been a professional rider since 2010, having had over a dozen wins - including in the Vuelta a España - and a Top10 at the 2015 Giro d'Italia.
At the beginning of 2022 it was revealed that Geniez was suspect of being the perpetrator of domestic violence against his ex-partner. He kept on racing, having finished in the Top10 of the Saudi Tour and won two stages at the Tour du Rwanda. After he was convicted, TotalEnergies did not give him further opportunities to race - until it was today confirmed that he is no longer associated with the team.
Although not explicitly said, on an Instagram post this morning Geniez has hinted to a possible retirement, as he seeks to purse "a second career". Whether that will be involved in cycling is a question that lies for the future.
