Daniel Oss follows Peter Sagan into road retirement, intends to focus on Gravel in 2024

After his longtime partner in the peloton Peter Sagan announced the conclusion of his professional road racing career, Daniel Oss has now followed suit. Also similarly to Sagan, Oss isn't completely done with bike racing.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 36-year-old Italian confirmed the end of his road career, whilst simultaneously teasing a new adventure in 2024. “I have always been somewhat alternative myself. That's gravel too," he explains. "It's something new and I feel like a pioneer in that sense. I am ready. For me it is a kind of restart."

Oss finished second at the 2022 edition of the Gravel World Championships behind Gianni Vermeersch and over the coming year, Oss is keen to continue developing himself in the discipline.

“It's a different world than road cycling. You can be yourself more and there is less pressure to perform, although I still want that. It is somewhat like a voyage of discovery, in which you look for new places," Oss explains. "There will be an extensive gravel calendar, with more competitions. Then you can measure yourself better.”
