For the first time since DNF'ing at the UCI World Cup in Waterloo, on the 15th of October, Shirin van Anrooij has now confirmed her return for Superprestige Boom on the 2nd of December.
Returning that first weekend in December, the 21-year-old will also ride the UCI World Cup event the following day in Flamanville. “Then I will go back to Spain for a training camp with the road team. Then I will ride the Namur World Cup in mid-December, followed by the busy Christmas period," says van Anrooij on the podcast De Grote Plaat. "Then I will complete a lot of crosses. In January I will go on a training camp again."
The focus for van Anrooij seems to developing further on the road. Yet her love for the discipline of cyclocross keep the talented young Dutchwoman returning to the mud. “In fact, for the first time I now have a really long off-season and a normal build-up to the road season," she explains. "This way I want to be able to focus a little more on the classics next year. I really want to discover what else I can do there. Then this investment is necessary.”
“But I will never disappear from cyclocross. I really like it too much, it's too much fun for me on the bike. That's why I find it so difficult," she concludes. "What does Sven Nys think of my plan? He has a bit of mixed feelings, I think. But on the other hand, he understands it very well. He is very happy that I will continue to ride at least a number of races for the team.”
