Michael Woods has had a difficult season so far in 2025. With the
Tour de France on the horizon, the 38-year-old Canadian national champion has now suffered another setback, abandoning the
Tour de Suisse on stage 4.
"Unfortunately Mike Woods has abandoned the Tour de Suisse during today’s fourth stage because of sickness," announced a post by the
Israel - Premier Tech team on
their official social media pages on Wednesday, explaining the four-time Grand Tour stage winner's decision to depart the prestigious Swiss stage race. "Join us in wishing Woodsy a speedy recovery!"
Now, in a new update to his Instagram account, the Canadian national champion himself has explained further his disappointment at another setback in this injury and illness-disrupted campaign. "Cycling is a cruel, cruel sport," Wodds begins his reflections sadly. "For the 2nd time this year, I came off of a great altitude camp, in great form, only to abandon the first race post."
"This time it was due to a lung infection. It’s tough to be ending my time in the 🇨🇦 national champ jersey this way, but I have some big races on the horizon," adds the 38-year-old in conclusion. "Hopefully the bad luck stops here."
