Alberto Contador, winner of two Giri d'Italia during his career, is currently an analyst for Eurosport and has analyzed the fourth stage of the Corsa Rosa where he believes
Remco Evenepoel will attempt to attack the competition.
The Madrid-born rider thinks that the first real stage in line for those in the general classification is coming: "It's practically not flat (the whole stage, ed.), it has two second category climbs and then the moment of truth, the Colle Molella, which is not too hard but has 3 kilometers with an average gradient of more than 9%".
Contador thinks that there will be two races in one: "I think we're going to have two races, one for the stage victory, a stage in which the riders will go out after the breakaway because it starts with a climb and I think they're going to let the breakaway do it".
"Up front in the breakaway for the stage win and in the back to try to improve in the general classification. I envision an attack by Remco Evenepoel." Expectations are mixed within the peloton, with some riders believing the early presence of the climb in the race and the flat final kilometers will demotivate attacks, but on the other hand the form and style of racing of Remco Evenepoel could see him try to make the difference early in the race as was the case in the Vuelta a Espana.
