Team Visma | Lease a Bike has built up their plans for the 2025 season over the past few months and now in a matter of minutes we learn about the schedule of many of it's leaders. Jonas Vingegaard was confirmed to not race the Giro d'Italia, and immediately we have the confirmation that the Dane will battle Tadej Pogacar also at the Vuelta a España (likely) and World Championships.
The Dutch team have confirmed that Vingegaard will start his season at the Volta a Portugal and then in the spring will race Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya, both races Tadej Pogacar has won in the past, but the two will not meet each other this spring. Vingegaard will battle Primoz Roglic in Catalunya, whilst a duel with Remco Evenepoel will also likely wait until... The Criterium du Dauphiné.
Vingegaard will not race the Giro d'Italia, where the team will chase the GC with Simon Yates, whilst simultaneously going for stage wins with Wout van Aert and Olav Kooij. Vingegaard will follow a traditional built-up towards the Grand Boucle including an altitude camp and the Criterium du Dauphiné which he has won in 2023. He will race the World Championships in Rwanda and the Vuelta a España has confirmed his presence also in the Spanish Grand Tour.
“I can’t wait to line up for the Tour again. It’s the race that means the most to me, and my goal is to win it for the third time," Vingegaard said, with the team also confirming the presence of Simon Yates, Sepp Kuss and Matteo Jorgenson as support in the mountains; whilst Wout van Aert who had been previously confirmed will return to his right-hand man role.
Vingegaard was defeated by an unstoppable Tadej Pogacar in 2024, but he does not want to settle for second place this year. “It’s great to see how the team has strengthened again. We’ll prepare optimally over the coming months and do everything we can to win the Tour,”
Vingegaard's schedule is not set in stone however, there is a large gap between March and June that may still have some more races, but whether this will be filled or not is yet to be decided. “We’ll define our specific goals later in the season. Last year proved that you can’t plan everything, but I never start a race without ambition".
