The team fully commited to
Ethan Hayter who found himself in the ideal position for the sprint, having benefited from the only proper leadout in the final kilometers by Filippo Ganna and Michal Kwiatkowski. Hayter went on to finish second, only beat by Wout van Aert, but will have more opportunities over the coming days to emerge victorious - including stage three into Sancy.
Ganna's 11-second loss also indicates that he is unlikely to be focusing on a yellow jersey stint, which would be possible after the race's individual time-trial on stage four.
