The 2022 season as not been a positive one for
Max Schachmann, and it will come to an end earlier as he was diagnosed with fatigue syndrom and will take a longer period of rest before focusing on the coming season.
"...There is no other therapy than rest, so I will now be taking a longer break. This will give me the opportunity to get back to full health and come back at what is a normal level for me," the German said. This comes off the back of a difficult season, in which he couldn't return to the level of previous years where he's taken consecutive wins at the Paris-Nice GC, the 2019 Itzulia Basque Country where he's won half the stages and two national titles inbetween several other results.
BORA have said that following the 2021 Olympics there were several setbacks to the German's health and form, combined with some crashes have seen the 28-year old struggle to perform throughout the year. He showed signs of promise in June when he finished inside the Top10 at the Tour de Suisse alongside some quality results, but was relatively absent from the Tour de France. Ever since he has not completed any race, and has decided to stop his season.
The team have hinted that he may begin the 2023 season in Australia, and is expected to be a leading figure in the Ardennes classics aswell as some of the stage-races throughout the spring as he's performed in the last few years.
