It had been rumoured and the news have now been confirmed. Chris Froome will headline the 2023 Tour du Rwanda, a race which has been extensively growing over the past few years and something which is set to have a big impact.
The main UCI race in Eastern Africa, the Tour du Rwanda has grown it's popularity over the roaring crowds, steep Mur de Kigali climb and array of talents that have been discovered in the region. A 2.1 race, it began bringing in Pro Teams, including TotalEnergies and Israel - Premier Tech in the 2023.
Froome, who is set to start the Tour Down Under soon, has confirmed in a social media message that he will take part in the Rwandan race. It will take place from the 19th to 26th of February and feature plenty hilly and mountainous stages.
In 2022 Natnael Testfatsion - who now races for Trek - Segafredo - has won the overall classification. The likes of Cristián Rodríguez and Merhawi Kudus, both riders who currently also take part in the World Tour, have in total conquered the last four editions. Rwanda will be hosting the 2025 World Championships and building on it's bid here.
