After a small bout of ilness,
Caleb Ewan will resume competition at
Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne after deciding not to race the UAE Tour where he won a stage last season.
“With Caleb Ewan in the team, we have multiple scenarios for the final in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. If it comes down to a sprint, we will have one of the favourites with him. At the same time, we have other riders who can attack on the cobbles or hills," said team general manager John Lelangue. Earlier in the year Lelangue stated the team would not change it's approach to gather UCI points as it faces the threat of relegation, that alongside the travel requirements and risks of Covid infections have put off several riders from travelling to the Middle East this winter which has caused so far some modest startlists at the Saudi Tour and Tour of Oman.
Caleb Ewan has added to Lelangue's statemet: “I am feeling very well right now, but it is better not to return immediately with a seven day stage race”. Later on in the spring Ewan will have his main goal be Milano-Sanremo once again, and he will be riding Tirreno-Adriatico in preparation for the longest race of the year.
Afterwards, he is expected to race the Oxyclean Classic Brugge-De Panne and Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields, before stints at both the
Giro d'Italia and
Tour de France later in the year where he'll be targeting stage wins.
