Vincenzo Nibali forced to miss Vuelta a Andalucia due to Covid-19 infection

After dozens of cases emerging in the peloton in the past few weeks Vincenzo Nibali is now also one of the affected member as he tested positive for Covid-19 two days before his second race of the season at the Vuelta a Andalucia.

The "Shark" started off his season at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana where he finished a solid 16th place and was looking to buildup form ahead of his spring where he is set to tackle a wide variety of classics before the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. Nibali had scheduled to race Omloop Het Nieuwsblad but that participation may be in jeopardy after this situation, Tirreno-Adriatico will be his last stage-race in preparation for a treble of monuments where Nibali is eyeing Milano-Sanremo, Tour des Flandres and then Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

The Astana Qazaqstan team, who have gotten their first win of the season yesterday at the Clásica Jaén Paraiso Interior with Alexey Lutsenko, will be lead by the Kazakh and Miguel Ángel López aswell who looked sharp in the recent Vuelta a Murcia. The 5-day stage-race in southern Spain usually brings illustrious startlist every year and this edition is no exception.
