Carlos Verona has spoken of the unity that has existed among the riders of the
Giro d'Italia to fight to shorten the 13th stage. The
Movistar Team rider believes that the conditions were too tough.
"As you can see the conditions are very tough and it is expected to rain all day, so the riders have voted to shorten the stage, to avoid having two long descents that would have been dangerous for the peloton," says the Movistar Team rider. "Weather is part of cycling, but sometimes you have to find the balance, we all have to reach an understanding, organization, teams and riders."
He explains that they think about the spectators, but above all about their health, which has determined their unit when it comes to fighting for the reduction:
We want the best for the spectators, for cycling. Two weeks of raining every day is not good for us. I think 19 out of 22 teams is a good number to show unity in our decision. In the end, we have reached an agreement, if we avoid spending two more hours in the rain it is better for us."
