The traditional pre-Tour de France warmup, the Critérium du Dauphiné is often the place where tactics are fine-tuned and leadership within teams becomes clearer. Leading
INEOS Grenadiers at the 2024 edition, will be
Carlos Rodriguez.
The 23-year-old Spaniard
was a star at the 2023 Tour de France, winning a stage before finishing fifth in the general classification, and is again expected to once again be the INEOS Grenadiers big hope for a potential podium later this summer, despite the expected presence of the likes of Tom Pidcock and Geraint Thomas in the INEOS Grenadiers Tour de France lineup.
At the Criterium du Dauphine however, Rodriguez will be the sole leader, and the Spaniard will get support from the likes of time-trial specialists
Jonathan Castroviejo and
Joshua Tarling, climbing talents of
Laurens De Plus and
Omar Fraile plus the all-round capabilities of former world champion
Michal Kwiatkowski and
Ben Turner.
If Rodriguez has hopes of securing the Maillot Jaune at the Criterium du Dauphine however, he will have to fight off some strong competition from the likes of Primoz Roglic (BORA - hansgrohe), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick-Step), Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), plus Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Lidl-Trek)
among others.
Something tells me Egan Bernal will be the strongest from INEOS in July.
Egan might be as you say but Carlos Rodriguez is a very good rider. 5th in the tour last year against a stong field and only recently beat Ayuso. I think Egan will tire in the third week and end with a top 10-20. Would love to see him do better though.
Agree that Rodriguez is a stellar rider. I'm optimistic that Bernal is on the upswing and could be on the cusp of some big results.
