Carlos Rodríguez has been steadily developing at INEOS Grenadiers since turning pro in 2020, however the British team are set to loose it's young talent to Movistar Team who are looking for a replacement for the veteran Alejandro Valverde.
Rodríguez had ben rumoured already to be joining the Spanish team, but Spanish news outlet 'Relevo' has yesterday revealed that despite having a contract until 2023, Rodríguez could be breaking it in order to join the Spanish team.
This would be a complicated deal however it seems apparent that the Spaniard is looking for more freedom, which is not the case in INEOS. The 21-year old finished third on the Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana and fourth at the Vuelta a Andalucia earlier in the season, and has won a stage in the Itzulia Basque Country. He is likely to be making his Grand Tour debut later on in the season at the Vuelta a España.
Rodríguez departure has been rumoured for a while, aswell as Richard Carapaz' which has recently been reported to have already signed with EF Education-EasyPost, softening up the mountain block for INEOS Grenadiers. Rodríguez is sitting second in the overall classification at La Route d'Occitanie, after a strong performance in the queen stage.
