Benoît Cosnefroy had decided earlier in the year that he wouldn't take part in the World Championships, which he restated following his win at the GP de Québec. However, a report suggests that he is already on his way to Wollongong to represent the French team.
L'Équipe have said that the Frenchman is set to arrive in Syndey - close to Wollongong - tonight and that he should be announced to take part in the road race this wednesday in a press conference where team national coach Thomas Voeckler will take part in. Despite the fitting profile, his early claims were that he would focus on the European calendar, but it would seem as if there was a late change of plans.
Cosnefroy would be replacing either Bruno Armirail or Rémi Cavagna who've raced the individual time-trial this Sunday, and slot himself in as an outsider for the rainbow stripes. Cosnefroy is a strong puncheur and has revealed his current form with the win in Québec, and will be leading the team alongside Julian Alaphilippe and Valentin Madouas as the defending champion's nation comes with several cards.
