A stage winner at both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana, Trek - Segafredo's Bauke Mollema only needs a victory at the Giro d'Italia to complete his set.
Now aged 36th however, his chances are surely running out and despite the elite company he would keep if he could manage it Mollema himself doesn't put any extra pressure on himself. “If that doesn't work, I won't lose any sleep over it," the Dutchman tells In de Leiderstrui. "I expect to be in the breakaway a few times in the second and third week and then I'll see how the legs are there."
In fact, if any Trek-Segafredo riders are going to impress on the Grand Tour stage over the next three weeks, Mollema reveals his suggestion that Mads Pedersen and Daan Hoole are the ones to watch. "I try to give the best and with Mads. We also have someone who can compete for the sprints and the points jersey. I will also contribute to that from time to time," says Mollema.
As for Hoole? "He rides really well. He rides so easily, he can win three stages," predicts Mollema with a smile. "Natnael Tesfatsion is a good rider, fairly fast also from a small group in a transition stage. He may surprise. We also have a nicely balanced team."
