Arvid De Kleijn sprints to victory on leisurely stage 2 of Paris-Nice 2024

After a leisurely and rather quiet day, stage 2 of Paris-Nice 2024 has been won from a bunch sprint by Tudor Pro Cycling Team's Arvid De Kleijn.

Although there were a few attacks from the bunch ahead of the two early King of the Mountains points, those riders quickly dropped back to the peloton afterwards, with no breakaway forming.

With the peloton calmly motoring along at a relaxed pace, the pre-stage threat of winds and echelons hadn't come to fruition.

Things did light up somewhat at the intermediate sprint with more bonus seconds on offer. Mattias Skjelmose attempted to go for them but other than him, the rest of the GC riders were content to stay quiet in the bunch.

In truth, not a lot was really happening, with the stage well behind its scheduled finish time due to the leisurely nature of the riding on the road.

With all the GC hopefuls safely through the 3km banner, all attention turned to the final sprint and the fight for positioning at the front of the bunch.

Because of the easier day, many had good legs and as such, the pace was incredibly high heading into the finale. Opening the sprint was Danny van Poppel but Arvid De Kleijn came roaring around to take the win with Laurance Pithie of Groupama - FDJ up there once again an Dylan Groenewegen in third.
