After he suffered a heavy crash at Le Samyn in February,
Arnaud De Lie has reportedly been struggling with a knee injury and is now set to miss
Milano-Sanremo this weekend according to Belgian outlet La Dernière Heure.
The
Lotto Dstny rider was not able to contest the victory in either of the opening two stages at Paris-Nice last week and finished more than three and a half minutes down on his teammates in the team time trial, before abandoning the race prior to the start of stage 4.
De Lie had looked to be in good form at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad a few days before Le Samyn, as he was one of the strongest riders on the Muur van Geraardsbergen. However, he said in an interview with Sporza ahead of stage 2 of Paris-Nice that “if you are not 100%, it is impossible to perform here”, clearly indicating that his crash had taken a toll on him.
An official decision on whether or not De Lie will race at Milano-Sanremo is expected to be made by his team later today. However, the young Belgian is now expected to turn his attention back to the rest of the cobbled Classics.
At the end of March, he is set to take on the Flemish ‘Holy Week’, with the E3 Saxo Classic, Gent-Wevelgem and Dwars door Vlaanderen all on his schedule ahead of the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix.
