The Belgian champion
Arnaud De Lie was due to open his season this week in Spain, however a lingering injury from recent training crash momentarily prevents the 22-year-old from attending the upcoming races with further programme in danger.
"Unfortunately, Arnaud De Lie will not be starting in GP Castellon and GP Valencia this weekend,"
Lotto informs in a brief
press release. "He suffered a crash during training earlier this week and is still experiencing knee pain. As a precaution, he will postpone the start of his season. We wish him a speedy recovery!"
De Lie originally planned to participate in
Gran Premio Castellón - Ruta de la Cerámica as his season debut this Saturday, followed by
Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 - Gran Premi València on Sunday.
So far, Etoile de Bessèges - Tour du Gard (February 5-9) remains on De Lie's calendar, suggesting that the injury may not be as severe as to bother the Walloon rider for too long. De Lie's classics campaign therefore shouldn't be in immediate danger.
