Team DSM didn't come to the
Tour de Suisse with high ambitions, but the goal of obtaining a stage win has already been achieved as
Andreas Leknessund stormed to the win today in Aesch.
“I don’t have much to say, it’s unbelievable, I’m really happy to have taken the win for the team," the Norwegian said in a post-race interview. He joined the day's breakaway which managed to elude the peloton after there was the lack of a focused and efficient chase.
"It was full gas all day. The hardest part was on the last climb and we felt that if I could get the gap over the peloton then we could make it to the line. In the final kilometres I was suffering but also could enjoy it," Leknessund described. He dropped his breakaway companions in the final ascent of the day, and unlike the other members of the group, he managed to stay ahead as he powered down into the finish with a comfortable gap that almost saw him climb into the race lead aswell.
We came here for stage wins and now we have one, so for the rest of the days I will try to follow and see, but to be aggressive still and go in the breakaway again will be nice so we can go for another top result," he concluded.
