Ahead of Giro d'Italia, Fernando Gaviria leads Movistar at Vuelta a Asturias in search of much needed win

Nairo Quintana, Richard Carapaz and Iván Sosa all figure in the list of recent winners of the Vuelta a Asturias. The small mountainous Spanish race is one of Movistar's favourite races in the build-up towards the Giro d'Italia, and this year the Spanish team takes Fernando Gaviria to the 2.1 race in search of a motivating win ahead of the Corsa Rosa.

The Vuelta a Asturias is coming, a race traditionally dominated by Movistar Team, which this year will also have local rider Pelayo Sánchez as leader (he won a stage in 2023). In addition, Fernando Gaviria will try to get a sprint victory before facing a Giro d'Italia that could be key for his career.

Riders like Gonzalo Serrano or Antonio Pedrero will also fight to try important things in a race that will take place between Friday 26 and Sunday 28 April with a very mountainous profile and with a very hard first stage with the Cordal as protagonist and ending in Pola de Lena. Gaviria's leadout Albert Torres, Sergio Samitier and Vinicius Rangel complete the lineup for the three-day race.

MOVISTAR TEAM FOR VUELTA A ASTURIAS 2024:

- Pelayo Sanchez
- Fernando Gaviria
- Gonzalo Serrano
- Antonio Pedrero
- Sergio Samitier
- Albert Torres
- Vinicius Rangel
