Lotto is one of the teams that have received a wildcard for the 2025
Vuelta a Espana, however their big stars are staying at home. The team had a major setback with the injury of Lennert van Eetvelt who was planned to be the team's leader throughout the final Grand Tour of the season; and it's lineup is now focused purely on stage hunting throughout the sprints and the hilly days.
“Our
line-up for this Vuelta brings together sprinters, climbers, and young talents discovering their first three-week race,” Mario Aerts, team sports manager, said in a press release issued by the team. Without van Eetvelt and the likes of Arnaud de Lie, Milan Menten and Brent van Moer in the lineup, it will be a difficult task to net a stage win in such a rugged Grand Tour. However the team has some cards, counting on experience but also a lot of youth.
Elia Viviani, who has close to ending his career last winter and only signed with the Belgian team in February, is set to lead the team with the focus on the few bunch sprints that the Spanish Grand Tour has on offer. Behind him
Jasper de Buyst,
Arjen Livyns and
Alec Segaert are capable of providing some good support in the leadout, which can be a substantial weapon for the 35-year old. Segaert may have the team's best chance of capturing a stage but will largely depend on breakaways.
Eduardo Sepúlveda,
Lars Craps,
Liam Slock and
Jonas Gregaard complete the lineup.
