Peter Sagan's professional career will come to a wrap at the Slovak MTB XCO championships today

Peter Sagan's cycling career is really over after today. The 34-year-old Slovak recently put an end to his career as a road cyclist, but has now also decided to end his professional career as a mountain biker. He will be in action one last time today.

His team Pierre Baguette announced this via social media: "After the health problems that Peter Sagan had this year, he decided to end his professional career also in mountain biking today at the Slovak national MTB championships in Košice," the team announced on X.

The three-time road world champion was struck by heart problems earlier this year and even had to undergo two operations. Sagan initially hoped to end his career in the Olympic mountain bike race in Paris, but that chance went up in smoke – partly due to his health problems, partly due to Slovakia failing to meet the points quota – when he failed to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Sagan will be in action one last time: today the Slovakian cross-country championship is on the program. The seven-time winner of the Tour de France green jersey rode the Shorttrack race on Saturday and finished second in that race, after Matej Ulik. Podium will also be the goal today. But even more than that, Sagan will want to enjoy his final cycling competition to the fullest. Have a blast, champion!
