Marianne Vos has taken the win at the 2022 Cyclocross World Championships, one of many titles in her long career, and she will be debuting her jersey next week at the Nacht van Woerden, her first CX season of the race. However she's decided to anticipate her off-road calendar.
Vos has decided to race the Epe Gravel Race this Saturday, an unscheduled appointment before she set off into cyclocross. “That was a last-minute decision, but I’m really looking forward to it," Vos said in a recent interview. "A national championship is always unique, and this one works out really well in terms of planning. It’s the ideal preparation for my first cyclocross race of the season.”
Vos will be eyeing the European Championships in Namur at the start of November, and will have a difficult task to succeed taking into account the amount of quality in the current field, specially the riders that have already started competing a month ago. The likes of Fem van Empel and Lucinda Brand have been looking very good, whilst tomorrow's World Cup in Tabor may reveal other big contenders for the European title - which will have Pauline Ferrand-Prevot included.
“As evidenced by recent weeks, the level is high. The competition is on edge,” Vos commented. “I want to perform well, especially in light of the European championships, which will take place on November 5.”
Vos has revealed that after the Nacht van Woerden, she will be racing several races. These will be the World Cup in Maasmechelen (30/10), the Europeans in Namur (5/11), and the races in Beekse Bergen (13/11), Superprestige Merksplas (19/11) and Overijse (20/11), before planning any further.
