"The combination is doable" - Jens Adams eyes win in Essen and flight to Dublin in the space of hours

As some riders take off on training camps in a favourable weekend, Jens Adams is looking to take advantage of. Not being part of a cup, today's Exact Cross Essen will have a modest startlist, seeing how tomorrow's World Cup race will take place in Ireland, and the 30-year old is looking to take advantage of it - and will be racing both.

“I did some research and the combination is doable,” the Belgian told Sporza. “Saturday morning a mechanic with a bicycle and two sets of wheels is already traveling by plane to Dublin. I myself will travel on Saturday evening after the cross in Essen with another bike and two sets of wheels.”

To many this would be a confusing decision. However Adams will have the opportunity to take a win today as he's one of the main favourites. His last pro win was in 2016 at the Swiss Radcross Illnau. "But Essen is close to the door and I can compete for the win," he says, an opportunity he could not miss.

Adams has been racing a consistent season and last weekend he was 7th in both Superprestige Boom and Antwerp World Cup. Mathieu van der Poel will be missing from Dublin, and some riders in the field - specially those eyeing the road season - won't be taking part in the new circuit.

“In Dublin I defend my sixth place in the World Cup," he continued. "That ranking has become a goal in itself." With some of the main figures missing from both Dublin and mainly today's race in Essen, Adams is hoping to take the opportunity to shine.
