Quinten Hermans is set to return to action on December 23rd in Mol. "After the World Championships on the road, I deliberately continued to the European Championship cyclo-cross and then took a rest period," says Hermans. "I will return to the field in Mol on December 23."
After the hotly anticipated returns of Tom Pidcock, Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel many were left wondering when and where would Quinten Hermans be back in action. That question has now been answered. The Belgian who will continue to ride for Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert until December 31st, is moving up to World Tour level in 2023, with Alpecin-Deceuninck.
Having not raced since November 6th, Hermans is excited to get back into the action. "When I started training again two weeks ago, I turned on my television again to better follow the cyclocross. It feels a bit strange to watch the cross in the seat instead of crossing yourself. It's starting to get really itchy now."
Will the upcoming World Championship in Hoogerheide be on the 27-year-olds mind? “If we see that it goes well and a top 5 place is in it, then I will not ignore the World Championships," Hermans teases.
"I have no idea where I stand against the competition conditionally. Will it go reasonably well in Mol or will it be disappointing? It will also be a bit of discovering for me how well I will respond to an intermezzo without a cross. It is quite new for me to resume in the middle of the cross season. I'm just going to enjoy the cross and hope the results will follow," the Belgian concluded.
