Wout van Aert is headlining Team Visma | Lease a Bike's lineups for Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne, however ultimately the Dutch team have plenty cards to play and the Belgian is hopeful of a victory this weekend.
“I think that the form is good. It’s a different approach than usual and without altitude but more racing I hope to improve for next weekend’s racing and I’ve really enjoyed it here," Van Aert told GCN this past weekend. "I’m six weeks from my peak form. It was good but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped, maybe. I suffered a lot on the TT bike and it was definitely a good reminder that training on the bike is important. I knew that before but I got the message the hard way. We’ll do that in the next weeks.”

However the time-trial bike is far from the priorities of van Aert at the moment. After the Opening Weekend he will spend three weeks at altitude with a few teammates in preparation for what are his ultimate goals: Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Hence, it will be an important challenge this weekend, specially Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.
“It’s massively strong if everyone is on their normal level," he says of the lineups for the weekend which include Dylan van Baarle, Christophe Laporte, Tiesj Benoot, Jan Tratnik and Matteo Jorgenson.
I heard that the guys training in Tenerife are doing really well, so we’ll have a super strong team for Opening Weekend. I hope that Benoot will have recovered and I’m confident that he’ll be strong in the Spring as well.”
