The third day of competition at the Kigali 2025 World Championships brought the junior time trials, with both the men’s and women’s races awarding their rainbow jerseys. In the end of the women's race, Megan Arens came out on top with a commanding display on the TT bike. The women’s event drew 47 riders to the start line at BK Arena, facing an 18.3-kilometer course that ended at the Kigali Convention Centre. Though largely flat, the decisive feature was the cobbled climb of Kimihurura, 1.3 kilometers at 6.3%, which once again proved a defining factor.
Rwanda’s Yvonne Masengesho had the honor of opening the day’s racing, posting 29:43 to set the first benchmark. Her lead was short-lived, as Chile’s Marlen Rojas soon moved ahead with 27:28. Norway’s Oda Aune Gissinger then raised the bar further, storming into the provisional lead at 26:24.
The suspense continued as the main contenders hit the course. Among them was Dutch rider Megan Arens, who delivered a dominant ride, stopping the clock at 25:47 to secure the gold medal. Behind her came Spain’s Paula Ostiz, one of the pre-race favorites. After recording 17:17 at the intermediate check, where just four riders were separated by four seconds, Ostiz powered through the final climb and crossed the line in 26:22, earning a brilliant silver medal.
Ostiz’s silver medal marks a breakthrough for her country in Kigali, securing Spain’s first medal of these World Championships and confirming her as one of the brightest young talents in international cycling. But, the day was all about Arens, who showed why she is one of the most promising Dutch junior's on a time trial bike.
