Soudal - Quick-Step was the last team to announce it's lineup for the
Vuelta a Espana and now it is possible to say that the
startlist is complete. Without Remco Evenepoel or any of the team's sprinters present, the Belgian team comes into the final Grand Tour of the season with nothing but climbers and puncheurs to aim for stage wins.
“I am happy to be back at the start of La Vuelta with this special T-Rex jersey on my shoulders,"
Mikel Landa said in a
press release. "I would like to get some good results, but the plan is to take it day by day and see how things go. There’s no secret the parcours is a hard one, with plenty of climbs and uphill finishes, but we have a strong and motivated team who are ready to fight all the way to Madrid".
The team that sees Remco Evenepoel departure will ironically have perhaps the most climber-heavy lineup of the entire Vuelta, although it's not certain if the team will aim for the overall classification. After the severe injuries suffered on the opening day of the Giro d'Italia, Mikel Landa wasn't able to prepare as some of his rivals towards this race, and his ambitions will only be fully decided after the first stages of the race.
The team will have stage wins as it's priority likely, with Valentin Paret-Peintre (a possible GC contender depending on how the race goes), Czech Tour winner William Junior Lecerf, Louis Vervaeke, Mauri Vansevenant, Gianmarco Garofoli, Max Schachmann and Pepijn Reinderink completing the lineup. With many hilly days on the menu, most riders should have viable chances of winning a stage in this Vuelta.
