Vuelta a Espana 2026 Classifications Update Stage 17 - All-Visma fight for green heats up! Matthew Brennan closes to 56 points of Wout van Aert after record fifth win

The first red jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana will be decided immediately in Monaco, where a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial opens a race featuring more than 58,000 metres of climbing, repeated summit finishes and a second race against the clock later in the final week.
This live classifications hub will be updated after every stage with the latest General Classification, Points Classification, Mountains Classification and Best Young Rider standings, tracking the fight for the red, green, polka-dot and white jerseys from Stage 1 on August 22 through to the final stage in Granada on September 13.
The overall battle will be shaped by repeated opportunities for the climbers, from the early Pyrenean and Andorran tests to Calar Alto, Sierra de la Pandera, Penas Blancas and the decisive Collado del Alguacil. The two individual time trials and bonus seconds provide further chances for the gaps between the main contenders to change.
Sprint finishes and intermediate sprints will drive the points competition, breakaways can quickly transform the mountains standings and the white jersey will develop alongside many of the same stages that decide the general classification. Each update will show the latest standings after the day's racing and highlight the important changes across all four competitions.

General Classification Standings after Stage 17
Mas remains in control of the red jersey with an accumulated time of 60:09:44. Gall holds second at 2:06, but has only four seconds in hand over Roglic before a stage expected to favour the Slovenian.
Richard Carapaz stays fourth at 4:24, while Onley is fifth at 5:44. The battle for the white jersey also remains tied closely to the overall standings, with Omrzel sixth at 6:14 and Skjelmose seventh at 6:49.
Cristian Rodriguez, Clement Berthet and Sepp Kuss complete an unchanged top 10. Embret Svestad-Bardseng’s move above Jarno Widar into 22nd was the only positional change inside the top 25.

Points Classification Standings after Stage 17
Brennan collected the maximum 50 points at the finish after defeating Meeus and Magnus Cort. Van Aert added 13 points at the intermediate sprint, leaving the Visma teammates separated by 56 points.
Romele strengthened third place by finishing fourth on the stage and now has 171 points. Coquard sits fourth on 141, with Meeus moving to 116 after his runner-up finish. Cort climbed five positions to sixth with 90 points. Kevin Vermaerke, Andreas Leknessund, Ramses Debruyne and Ethan Hayter round out the top 10.

No climbing points were available during the only stage of this Vuelta without a categorised ascent, leaving the mountains standings unchanged. Buitrago leads with 69 points, 29 ahead of Van Aert. Mas remains third on 24, followed by Leknessund on 23 and Lorenzo Fortunato on 21.

Youth Classification Standings after Stage 17
Onley retained the white jersey and remains fifth overall with a total time of 60:15:28. Omrzel is still only 30 seconds behind, making the time trial important to both the youth classification and their positions inside the overall top six. Leo Bisiaux holds third at 10:41 but faces a substantial deficit to the two leading contenders.
