Throughout the month of December, the 'Costa Blanca' in Spain become the ultimate hotspot for professional cycling, in a way that can hardly be replicated at any other time of the year. Because of this, many amateur riders have encounters as some of the best in the world - Tadej Pogacar's have hit the spotlight quite a lot. Now, a fan has recorded a 19-minute training behind none other than Jonas Vingegaard.

It may seem out of pocket but Ukrainian Youtuber Artem Shcherbyna was out on a training ride and found Vingegaard alongside only one teammate. At a calm pace, he and other riders followed. Throughout this time, Vingegaard put on a few sprints, in which Shcherbyna recorded himself hitting almost 1100 watts - an interesting mention is he does ask Vingegaard in a previous sprint how much he's reached and the answer is '800'.

He also asked Vingegaard about why he and Roglic did not shave the legs in the winter, quite the interesting question for such an occasion, and the Dane responded 'I shave them before the Tour', once again likely an ironic response. It is an unusual encounter but has led to some interesting footage.

a hello and selfie is fine, but 19 mins of filmed stalking, seriously?? absolutely ridiculous. no class. training is part of their jobs, leave them be. stop turning them against the fans. effing idiot.

Depends, the guy is known for it, some let him others clearly tell him where to stick it. You didn’t watch it did you? I’m sure in some cases he kind of asks and why should a rider mind someone riding behind during normal rides, it’s kind of the norm in this sport. On the other hand, if you’re busy concentrating on a specific training session, obviously anything is going to distract you and the guy has to respect that. Yes, he’s kind of tacky but no worse than any paparazzi, and he has made this his “profession” it seems. Like you say, no class at all.

lol they pass the SD Worx team at 4:00 in the video and Demi Vollering's (I think it's her...) jaw drops when she realises it's Jonas.

I’m always amazed at how much people pay attention to such stuff cycling. Unless I’m alone and someone else is too, I pass, say hi and move on. On the rare occasions I get passed, if I’m in shape I’ll try to join or hang but I’ll not try to identify anyone (in any case, far too many amateurs dress in pro outfits). Similarly, when riding in groups, everyone seems to scouring and analysing other people’s equipment and set-ups (i.e. not really paying attention to the group, riding or the road) no wonder so many silly accidents happen. This also seems to be used as a rare excuse for breaking the ice whereas mentioning other more noticeable things like physionomic details a person probably isn’t aware of because they can’t see themselves riding (swinging hips, lateral knee jerks, foot turns, skewed shoulders etc.) doesn’t seem to be appreciated. Strange logic, forever fidgeting and paying in order to optimise your equipment for better performance but ignoring the potential you have for doing the same to yourself, often for free.
