Demi Vollering finally found her best form and continues to race with it. After winning La Vuelta Femenina, she has won the queen stage and overall classification of Itzulia Women with a long-distance solo attack on the final day.
Team SD Worx-Protime won the first two stages with Mischa Bredewold and they were the big favourites to win the final day. But it was anything but controlled early on with 12 riders forming the day's breakaway, despite the selective climb of the Jaizkibel early on.
It was in the climb to Mendizorrotz that the group was caught, early on race leader Bredewold was in the front but as the minutes passed, the pure climbers came to the front. Demi Vollergina ttacked with 30 kilometers to go; Juliette Labous was the closest chaser but no-one could match.
Vollering reached the summit of the climb almost with a minute's lead over a chasing group of 9 where teammates Marlen Reusser and Niamh Fisher-Black were. The victory was attributed as the Dutch rider soared to the flat finale in San Sebastián by herself but maintaining a large hap that she had built.
Vollering won the final stage and ultimately the overall classification, following her triumph at La Vuelta Femenina. SD Worx was so comfortable wih the lead that they even led the peloton (built of two groups that connected close to the finish) out in a sprint.
Here it was Thalita de Jong who won the sprint for second place 44 seconds behind whilst race leader Mischa Bredewold was third on the day and concludes the race with a second place in the overall classification.
