Jonas Vingegaard headlines this week's riders UCI rankings update, with a big surge after the end of the Vuelta a España that helped him reach the second position. His victory in the overall GC plus three stage wins, the second place in the green and KOM jersey and 9 top 15 throughout the race granted him 2686 points, thanks to which he is now the second man in the classification behind Tadej Pogacar, who lost 230 points given that he got worse results at the Candian classics compared to last year.
You can check the previous update here. The end of the Vuelta a España and the subsequent addition of all the points scored during the three-week race have caused a major shake-up of the standings. Most of the top 10 has changed, with 4 new riders appearing.
As mentioned at the beginning, Jonas Vingegaard got almost 3000 points and moved from 8th to 2nd, with a total of 5924 points. The Dane overtook Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Primoz Roglic, Isaac del Toro and Remco Evenepoel, all of them without having participated at the Vuelta, and Mads Pedersen, who was at the Vuelta but "only" got 777 points.
Those 777 points allowed him to pass van der Poel, keeping his third place and making it two Danes in the podium. Van der Poel fell to the fourth position, as he didn't race last week, while Joao Almeida surged to fifth. The Portuguese finished in second in the GC of the Vuelta, besides of winning two stages (5 and 13) giving him 1578 points. He climbed 8 spots in the process, being right in front of his teammate Isaac del Toro, making it three UAE riders inside the top 10.
The Mexican could not stop winning at the Italian classics last week, adding three more victories to his record book (Giro della Toscana, Coppa Sabatini and Trofeo Matteotti), which awarded him 450 points. However, he lost the 102 points he got at the Vuelta last year, so he just obtained 348 points.
Remco Evenepoel stays in seventh, and behind him it is Tom Pidcock who appears. The Briton surprised everyone with his performance during the Vuelta, finishing in the podium and racking 1309 points that helped him to climb 16 spots.
Oscar Onley only got 30 points, but that was enough to go from 11th to 9th, while Giulio Ciccone closes the top 10 after a very combative Vuelta in which he was not far off a stage win.
Some riders that rode the Vuelta in 2024 but did not come this year lost many points, as it was the case of Wout van Aert and Florian Lipowtiz, losing 1085 and 595 points respectively and disappearing from the top 10. Other rider such as Jasper Philipsen, Juan Ayuso, Felix Gall or Jay Vine benefited from that, all of them making it to the top 25.
Four riders inside the top 100 climbed more than 100 positions after this week's update, and all of them rode the Vuelta. Jai Hindley got 1025 points and ranked up 127 spots, currently sitting in 42nd, thanks to a solid Vuelta where he almost secured the podium. Israel - Premier Tech teammates Matthew Riccitello and Ethan Vernon climbed 124 and 105 spots respectively, while Sepp Kuss gained the impressive number of 153 positions, narrowly making it to the top 100.
Regarding the riders losing the highest number of spots, they were Primoz Roglic and Kaden Groves, both of them having skipped the Vuelta 2025 after putting on an impressive display during last year's edition.
