UAE again! Rui Oliveira takes first professional win on Tour of Slovenia Stage 2

Rui Oliveira has won the second stage of the 2025 Tour of Slovenia, ahead of Fabio Christen in a sprint finish from a selected group. It was Oliveira's first professional win on the road, and UAE still can't stop winning in 2025!

In the final 10km, there was a 7 man group up the road with over 40 seconds to the main peloton. In that group, some of the riders included Rui Oliveira, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Fabio Christen and Anders Johannessen. There was also local hero, and 19 year old, Jakob Omrzel, could he delight the home fans?

Inside the final 5km and the peloton caught some of the riders who had been dropped from the break: Juan Pedro Lopez, Jan Castellon, Matteo Scalco. Up ahead, the front group were playing games with each other. With time in their hands to the peloton, each man in the break was taking shorter and shorter turns on the front.

Tao Goeghegan Hart was the first to react after Sjoerd Bax tried to go long, with 1km to go. It all came down to the sprint, Christen went early and was leading right up until the final 25 metres, until Rui Oliveira came around him to take the win. Despite missing out on the win, Christen now leads the GC.

There was some protest from Christen about Oliveira's sprint, but overall the fastest man came out on top for his first pro win on the road. Yet another win for UAE Team Emirates - XRG!
