Tom Pidcock's schedule for the upcoming months looked set in stone however there has been a last-minute change. The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rider is not yet ending his spring campaign, and has added the German Eschborn-Frankfurt classic to his calendar.
Pidcock was on track for a brilliant spring campaign that including several top results but at the Volta a Catalunya, a crash down a ravine saw him suffer a severe knee injury which left him off the bike for almost two weeks. However, his recovery in the month of April has been very fast, and he returned to competition at the Tour of the Alps. Whilst in the opening day he talked of very poor form, in the following days it improved significantly, with him winning a stage and performing better on the mountainous days that followed.
He looked to build form towards Liège-Bastogne-Liège but ultimately he was not able to be in contention for a result, as he suffered a badly-timed mechanical and then didn't manage to return to the peloton. Previously, his coach Kurt Bogaerts talked about his schedule for the following months which would include the Nové Mesto Mountain Bike world cup race; an altitude camp, the Tour de Suisse and then finally a short ride down from his home in Andorra to Barcelona for the start of the Tour de France.

Eschborn-Frankfurt to end Pidcock's spring campaign

But inbetween, also Eschborn-Frankfurt, where he should be the headliner. "The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team sees Pidcock’s participation as a controlled step within his ongoing build-up," the Swiss team wrote in a press release. "At this stage, the emphasis is on accumulating race kilometres and continuing to re-establish competitive condition after recent setbacks. Eschborn–Frankfurt offers a solid platform in this process, without placing particular expectations on the outcome".
This adds his as a favourite for the race and will also increase the visibility of the world tour race, set to take place this Friday in western Germany. The race features a profile that is well adapted to puncheurs such as Pidcock, whilst also providing chances for a reduced bunch sprint in which he would also be well suited to.
