The World Championships promised surprise and drama and they delivered. Against all odds and the expectations of most, the win has not been taken by any of the big favourites, but instead by Tobias Foss who set an incredibly strong time and soared to the rainbow stripes in the time-trial discipline.
Riding the same course as the women's Elite field, the men's peloton knew exactly what to expect. The hilly and technical 34-kilometer course however allowed for surprises, and what was to happen was exactly that on the road.

The field was very strong, and within the first waves some strong times started being set, with the likes of Luke Plapp, Bruno Armirail, Yves Lampaert and Stefan Bissegger all removing each other from the hot seat in quick succession early on in the day. Bissegger's time was one to contest for the medals, His time held strongly, until Tobias Foss blasted through the finish to remove 47 seconds quicker with a time that would be contesting the win.
As Ethan Hayter and Magnus Sheffield - who've done very well in the first intermediate points - had a mechanical and a crash respectively, it brought down their expectations. Ethan Hayter finished second to Foss, with Nelson Oliveira following and riding to third place, whilst Stefan Küng led the final intermediate point as Remco Evenepoel, Tadej Pogacar and Stefan Küng couldn't match the times.
Küng seemed to be the only rider capable of beating Foss, but the finish was dramatic as Küng could not remove the Jumbo-Visma rider out of the hot seat, by only three seconds. Filippo Ganna could not contest the podium, and Remco Evenepoel finished third on the day nine seconds down, culminating on one of the most surprising results in recent times.
