Soren Waerenskjold on stage 11 of the 2026 Tour de France
Just 24 hours after celebrating arguably the biggest victory of his career, Soren Waerenskjold was among three Uno-X Mobility riders caught in the mass crash that marred the finale of stage 12 at the Tour de France.
Waerenskjold, Anthon Charmig and Jonas Abrahamsen were all checked by the team doctor after coming down in Chalon-sur-Saone. Uno-X reported no immediate indication of a serious injury, although further examinations were still taking place after the finish.
“They went down more or less across the whole road, so yes, that is the situation in brief,” sports director Christian ‘Gummi’ Andersen told TV 2 Sport.
“The doctor has seen them and there is nothing really serious, but he is now checking them one by one. Then we will have to see how it ends.”

Waerenskjold pulled into Gaviria crash

Andersen said the incident began when a Bahrain - Victorious rider moved slightly across in front of Fernando Gaviria during the sprint. Gaviria fell heavily and brought Waerenskjold down with him, while Charmig and Abrahamsen were positioned close enough to become caught in the crash immediately behind.
“It was a Bahrain rider who moved slightly across in front, then Fernando Gaviria went straight down and took Waerenskjold with him,” Andersen explained. “The others then came down just behind because they were sitting right alongside Soren Waerenskjold.”
The crash brought a sudden reversal for Waerenskjold, who had delivered Uno-X Mobility’s first victory of this Tour only one day earlier. The Norwegian produced a superb ride to win stage 11, holding off the chasers to secure a breakthrough success on cycling’s biggest stage.
His celebrations had barely subsided before the team was left assessing three riders following another frantic sprint finale.
Tim Merlier won stage 12 ahead of Olav Kooij and Jasper Philipsen, but Uno-X’s immediate attention turned to the condition of Waerenskjold, Charmig and Abrahamsen.
The initial news was encouraging, with no serious injuries immediately apparent, but the team continued checking all three riders individually before confirming whether they would be fit to start stage 13.
