After missing out on taking the Rainbow Jersey in the men's elite road race last Sunday to Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert has another chance to taste victory at the Glasgow World Championships on Friday in the individual time-trial.
"I was able to recover, it was hard but I haven't felt too bad since Monday. It means that the form is there. The feelings are good, I made my first effort since the road race on Wednesday. I'm happy, it went well," the 28-year-old Belgian told RTBF.
The level of competition in the time-trial is expected to be fierce. Alongside the Jumbo-Visma superstar will be the likes of Filippo Ganna, Stefan Kung and van Aert's Belgian teammate, Remco Evenepoel.
"It's the world championships, there are a lot of candidates," van Aert admits. Nevertheless, he is confident and doesn't think an outsider such as Tobias Foss last year in Wollongong will be able to secure the World Championship title. "If it was possible last year, it can still happen here. But the circumstances were different with this long trip to Australia. In my opinion, one of the favourites will win."
