La vie vous réserve toujours des surprises et cette semaine plus que jamais, j’ai appris qu’elle est bien plus importante que tout le reste.
Audrey Cordon-Ragot recently announced her absence from the World Championships which came as a surprise to many following the women's field, due to medical reasons. She has revealed today in a public message that she has recently suffered a stroke which has led her to stay away from competition for the time being.
“Life always has surprises in store for you and this week I learned more than ever that life is more important than anything else. My absence from the upcoming World Cup, which many have described as a whim, fear of losing, a lack of respect for the French team, etc… is due to a stroke that hit me last Sunday," Cordon-Ragot said in a post on Twitter.
“It was not noticed immediately, but I was lucky (yes I say lucky) to have a medical staff with me (thanks Gwenaëlle Madouas, Maryline Salvetat and Mathieu Le Strat), who strongly advised me to undergo an MRI. That saved my life," she said. The French rider is now at home resting, without any indications on if or when she may return to competition.
Cordon-Ragot is the current French road and time-trial champion. The Trek - Segafredo rider has been one of the main figures of the season, having also won the Postnord Vargarda WestSweden road race and time-trial, alongside a stage win and second place in the GC of the recent Simac Ladies Tour, the last race which she has completed. She completed her message with the sentence "To love vigorously is to live vigorously".
