Stefan Küng has had an incredible season, however with few wins. He was very consistent in the cobbled classics where he finished on the podium of Paris-Roubaix and E3 Saxo Bank Classic, and finished runner-up at both European and World Championships in the time-trial. Yesterday he got an important win.
His loss at the Europeans was by less than a second, and after he managed to beat all of his rivals at the Worlds, he saw his time failing to surpass complete outsider Tobias Foss. After such a set of results it wouldn't be surprising to see Küng turn off the switch and focus on 2023, but he raced the
Chrono des Nations this Sunday where he returned to his winning ways - beating Foss by only two seconds.
“It's nice to win and end the season well," Küng said in a post-race interview. "That way I can start my rest period with a good feeling. I feel like taking a break and enjoying my family, but I'm also looking forward to the 2023 season!” He looked back on a successful year, looking to turn his consistency into wins.
"It's the end of a very good year for me, I was very consistent. The team and I are motivated for the future. This winter we are going to work hard, on all aspects, but especially on the time trial bike. We saw it again today: it is sometimes very tight. So we are not going to leave anything to chance," he concluded.
