Team BikeExchange - Jayco manager
Matt White has talked about the upcoming ambitions of Simon Yates for 2023, which should not include the Giro d'Italia for the first time n many years. However, the Australian has talked about some of the riders he expects to see in Italy.
“I bet my house that Evenepoel will be at the start," White told Velonews. "He would take the entire Belgian media with him as world champion and winner of the Vuelta.” The Belgian's presence at the race is not confirmed but heavily hinted throughout the season, and with a suiting route it is likely to happen. White has not only mentioned the Belgian however: “I wouldn't be surprised if Roglic will also be at the start of the Giro."
The manager of the Australian team has had an opinion on Roglic. "His days as a leader for Jumbo-Visma in the Tour are probably numbered," he said. "He looks like an ambitious rider, so I think he prefers to focus on another Grand Tour. On top of that, the Giro course is up to him.”
Earlier this week Jumbo-Visma DS Merijn Zeeman has commented on how the decision has not been made, but likely either Roglic or Vingegaard will race the Italian Grand Tour. "Obviously, the alternative is the Corsa Rosa, whose route seems suitable for both captains. Jonas has never raced the Giro, so it's a chance for him if he wants to," he mentioned.
With the injuries suffered at the Tour de France and the evolution Jonas Vingegaard has undergone in the mountainous terrain, many argue Roglic has become the second card in the Dutch team's deck. His crash and abandon in the final week of the Vuelta a Espana was another hit, as he was looking to get his leading position within the team back to it's pre-Tour level.
