Rasmus Tiller has taken the victory on stage 3 of the
4 Jours de Dunkerque, benefitting from an explosive race that split in the day's many cobbled sectors. This was an important victory for
Uno-X Mobility, whilst
Laurence Pithie defended his race lead.
The third stage of the race was flat but featured a circuit around the city of Wallers Arenberg, with a long cobbled sector to be ridden multiple timesbefore the finish. Naturally, this would put pressure on the race leader Laurence Pithie, and create conditions for a chaotic race.
This would be the case. Alexys Brunel, Simon Gugliemi and Tom Mainguenaud formed the day's breakaway, however the race split early on with attacks beginning just inside the final 100 kilometers. With 55 to go the race further split with a large group going up the road.
Pithie was in front but so was Artem Shmidt, Rasmus Tiller, benjamin Thomas and around a dozen other riders. The final cobbled sector was placed inside the final 3 kilometers and here the pace was very high, with the chaos variable also at play as Movistar's Filip Maciejuk crashed during it.
The finale was flat but there was no control in the group, and inside the final kilometer Rasmus Tiller launched an attack that would earn him enough of a gap to ride on towards the stage win. Laurence Pithie sprinted to seecond behind and did manage to remain int he leader's jersey, beating Jason Tesson for third place.
