Remco Evenepoel’s extraordinary 2024 has been capped off with another accolade as he is named Belgian of the Year. Already the recipient of the Kristallen Fiets and Flandrien of the Year awards, Evenepoel’s latest honour cements his place as a sporting icon in Belgium.
The 24-year-old had a ground breaking year, highlighted by his debut at the Tour de France, where he finished third overall, claimed a stage victory, and secured the young rider’s jersey. However,
it was at the Paris Olympics where Evenepoel truly made history, becoming the first male cyclist to win both the road race and the time trial at the same Games. He also became Belgium’s first athlete in over 70 years to win two Olympic gold medals at a single Olympics.
