Ramon Sinkeldam could not contribute much to Jasper Philipsen's fourth sprint victory in the eleventh stage of the
Tour de France. A luxury problem, but the lead-out man of
Alpecin-Deceuninck would have liked to have had a more prominent role in the final.
"I think the credits mainly go to Jasper himself, and Jonas," Sinkeldam tells NOS. "Søren brought us well in the last kilometer and then Jasper was a bit on his own. But I think he's the best sprinter at the moment, so if he's there in that position, he can finish it."
"Basically I had to take those guys towards the last kilometre, but it was wet and chaotic and I had to brake once. Then I was lost, so unfortunately I was not able to contribute very much personally. In the end he was dropped off well and shows that he is the fastest."
"Of course that's a bit disappointing. Especially if you still win, you feel a bit useless. You just can't be the most important every time and in the end we have to make sure that he is as good as possible towards the last kilometer. Physically I feel very good, but it is not quite possible to go that last mile in the final. It is still a bit of a search for my new position in the train. I am two places earlier, but we show that we can solve it and still win."
